North Jakarta People Enthusiastically Join Storytelling Workshop

Storytelling is an effort to educate children thus they grow into virtuous and life-skills children. Therefore storytelling skills are important for parents and teachers today in educating their children.

It is also believed to foster interest and civilization of children's literacy

It can be seen from a storytelling skill workshop at Permata Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA), Tugu Utara Urban Village, Koja, which is held by North Jakarta Library and Archive Agency along with National Children's Network.

North Jakarta Library Section Head, Iwan Hery Susanto added that the workshop is a series of activities in 25 RPTRAs in a bid to introduce fairy tales as a noble culture of the Indonesian nation to children.

"It is participated by 100 people, consisting of early childhood education school (PAUD)/Kindergarten teachers, RPTRA caretaker and parents," he stated, Wednesday (3/13).

National Children's Network Executive Director, Nanang Djamaludin explained that it is held to present storytelling skills which contain noble values to children and students who really need to be possessed by parents and teachers nowadays.

"It is also believed to foster interest and civilization of children's literacy. Which is why children will be motivated to become strong book readers later," he uttered. 

One of workshop participants from Pinus II RPTRA, Sri Maryati admitted, through this workshop, she knows about attracting audience attention and good storytelling techniques.

"Techniques that we get will be applied in our RPTRA thus it can attract the interest of children to read," she expressed.
